Privacy Policy — Optical Form

This Privacy Policy describes how Optical Form (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses, and shares information when you install and use our Shopify application.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Store Information

When you install Optical Form, we access the following information from your Shopify store through Shopify’s APIs:

  • Store details: store name, domain, and shop owner name.
  • Product data: product titles, variants, and images (to assign optical forms to products).
  • Metaobject data: we create and manage app-owned metaobjects to store form configurations.
  • Theme data: read-only access to themes for the theme app extension.

1.2 Information We Do NOT Collect

  • We do not collect customer personal data (names, emails, addresses, payment info).
  • We do not use cookies or tracking technologies on your storefront.
  • We do not collect data from your customers’ browsers.
  • We do not access order or checkout data.

1.3 Form Submission Data

When a customer fills out an optical form on your storefront, the selected options are added directly to the Shopify cart as line item properties. This data is processed entirely by Shopify — we do not store, transmit, or process customer form submissions on our servers.

2. How We Use Information

We use the information we collect solely to:

  • Provide and maintain the Optical Form application.
  • Sync form configurations to your Shopify store as metaobjects.
  • Display product information within the app’s admin interface.
  • Process your subscription and billing through Shopify’s Billing API.

3. How We Share Information

We do not sell, rent, or share your store information with third parties, except:

  • Shopify: data is exchanged through Shopify’s APIs as required for the app to function.
  • Gadget.dev: our application is hosted on Gadget.dev, which processes data on our behalf as a data processor.
  • Legal requirements: we may disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights.

4. Data Storage and Security

  • All data is stored securely on Gadget.dev’s infrastructure with encryption in transit (TLS/SSL) and at rest.
  • Form configurations are stored as Shopify metaobjects within your own store.
  • We retain store data only while the app is installed.
  • We follow industry-standard security practices to protect your data.

5. Data Retention and Deletion

  • During use: we store your form configurations and app settings for as long as the app is installed.
  • After uninstall: within 48 hours of receiving Shopify’s shop/redact webhook, we delete all data associated with your store from our systems.
  • Customer data requests: we respond to all customers/data_request and customers/redact webhooks as required by Shopify and applicable privacy laws.

6. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Request correction of inaccurate data.
  • Request deletion of your data.
  • Object to or restrict processing of your data.
  • Data portability.

7. GDPR Compliance

We comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and handle all mandatory compliance webhooks from Shopify:

  • customers/data_request: we respond with any stored customer data (note: we do not store customer personal data).
  • customers/redact: we delete any customer-related data upon request.
  • shop/redact: we delete all shop data within 48 hours of app uninstallation.

8. California Privacy Rights (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act. We do not sell personal information. To make a request, contact us at the email below.

9. Children’s Privacy

Our app is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by updating the “Last updated” date at the top of this policy.
